I almost always learn something new about money and humanity when I watch the Suze Orman show. Sometimes she can pinpoint the exact reason why someone wants to take tennis lessons or buy a car. She looks over everything from finances to estate planning to if someone needs term life insurance no medical exam. I expect these things from her, but she just always shocks me with how right she is about people.

I think sometimes she gets a bad reputation for yelling at people and her Suze smackdowns. However, she really is a student of human behavior and it’s almost creepy to see how right on she can be about how people will act or why they are doing what they are doing. I think I’ll just call her Suze the Mind Reader from now on. You can really learn a lot about people when you look at their money.

On the Road with Austin and Santino taught me a lot. One of my favorite things is that they don’t bring fabric with them. Instead they have to find it at country stores or even remake items from thrift shops. I think in big cities people have a store for digital cameras and another one for fabric so this is a big change. They always seem to end up making something out of cheap tulle. I guess it’s the one universal fabric that you can always find anywhere. I’m also really surprised by all of the quilt shops, seems like every small town has one. I really loved how one owner kept calling all of the dress making materials ‘the fancies’.

I have to say that on the Road with Austin and Santino is one of my favorite new shows. I didn’t think I was going to watch it at first because I missed the first season of Project Runway so I never really gelled with these two people. However, I tuned in and learned something really valuable. The team was making a dress for a pageant and the girl they were making the dress for was talking about how 1st place is the only one that matters. Then someone made a joke about how both Austin and Santino won Project Runway. Of course, they didn’t. However, they were memorable enough that they have their own show now and how many of the winners can say that?

In fact I’ll even watch sitcoms about people watching car chases. They are always so unrealistic in the movies and on TV though. Seriously, have you people never heard of a radar detector? I think in real life these things never turn out well so maybe glamorizing them on TV isn’t the best idea.

I was eagerly awaiting the return of Dating in the Dark. I only watched the first episode this season and then I wondered, am I done watching this show I previously loved? The basic concept is that couples date in the absolute dark so that looks don’t factor into it. Then after a few dates they have to decide whether they like the person when they see them in the light. At first, this was a great idea. It really helped people say OK can this person find jobs? Is this person nice? Do we have shared interests?

What turned me off of the show is that now it seems to be a competition about who can look best in the light and really just sway people’s opinions away. It was an interesting social experiment that somehow still ended up being superficial.

I really had no idea, I just always thought that if you needed the help, you would get it. Instead it seems like a lot of people need to work with a company who’s experienced in it. It also takes a lot of time and you might have to go through some rejections but if you need it you’ve really go to stick with it.

If you constantly have to count the patterns on a shower curtain why not throw it out? If you have to rearrange your pictures 15 times a day then why not just take them down? From watching the show I guess the obsession will transfer to something new if left untreated which is why it’s so important to take care of it. Most of these people are just so glad to be able to enjoy simple things like pendant lights, cars, their home, or their family again.

With an upcoming family wedding I can’t help but think of all the wedding movies such as Runaway Bride, Father of the Bride, My Big Fat Greek wedding and so many more. What I love about these movies is that there is always chaos, people are always over budget. The family takes over. In the end though somehow it always boils down to love and commitment and I hope that it turns out that way for brides everywhere. It’s definitely a lesson we could all learn from movies.

I wasn’t really enthralled by the story line at all but I decided to pick it up. Visually it’s stunning, the story is lackluster like I expected, but it’s so pretty to watch that I didn’t care. It’s just so much to take in at once that it should probably come with a pulse oximeter. So that was my lesson of the day: if the visual effects are good enough they can really make a movie.
