HGTV $250,000 Challenge

Filed under: Business Lessons • Comments: None

I’m a naturally cynical person. I usually assume that if something can go wrong it will. Every once in awhile a show makes me just melt. I was so glad to hear that HGTV was doing a $250,000 challenge. Real homeowners are judged on their own decorating & DIY skills in their homes.

Many of these people are about to lose their houses. The money will help them pay down their mortgages if they win. In a way I feel bad for the people who work so hard and don’t win. I hope they find a way to keep the homes that they’ve put so much work into. It just shows that sometimes there are huge problems that take even bigger solutions, like a TV show to help you make it through.

Beverly Hills Groomer

One of the most inspiring shows that has been on in a long time is Beverly Hills Groomer. It follows Artist the winner of the show “Groomer has it”. I was surprised to see how difficult life is even if you win a reality show. He can hardly pay his bills and his family doesn’t understand why he wants to go into business for himself.

Without a doubt Artist is the most driven person I’ve ever seen. He just won’t stop. It’s really inspiring even though I’m not a dog groomer. There are days that I feel rejected in my writing career, it’s the name of the game. I’ve practically filled up a mac memory with my work but I never seem to get anywhere. Instead, I need to take a clue from Artist and keep plugging away. He makes me think that it’s possible, all of those big dreams that we have.

Larping

Filed under: Business Lessons • Comments: None

You learn something new everyday. Tonight I was watching Wife Swap & I learned about larping or live action role playing. As far as I can tell people dress up like elves & then hit each other with fake swords in a medieval type setting.

To me, it just looks like a lot of work. I could never keep in character or memorize an entire new language. I’d much rather go on Vegas vacations. The larping family is learning that they need to have jobs. Granted I wouldn’t mind throwing bean bags at people while saying “I bring forth an ice storm.” like it’s totally normal. There is no way I could do this without breaking out laughing. Who says TV isn’t educational? Am I the only one who didn’t know about larping?
