Lessons Learned from Tori Spelling

Filed under: Business Lessons • Comments: None

There are certain people that just inspire you with weight loss success stories or in my case their entrepuneur’s spirit. Tori Spelling is one of these people. Granted, I haven’t seen her reality show in a few years because my cable doesn’t get that channel. However, just yesterday I was randomly thinking about where she gets her ideas from. It’s kind of comical like “I made fries for dinner lets start a fry shop. “I dressed my kids in clothes lets start a clothing line for kids”

The real question isn’t where she gets her inspiration, it’s where doesn’t she get inspiration from? I think that one of her problems is that she has so many ideas that she can’t always finish and see them all through to completion. A great example is how they constantly move homes. As soon as they finish moving into their “dream house” they discover that it doesn’t have enough space and announce that they need to move again. However, at least in business she is an inspiration.

LA Inks?

Filed under: Business Lessons • Comments: 6

I really don’t understand what is going on with the show LA Ink. All the new people keep getting fired. Kat just keeps putting more and more pictures of herself up in her shop, like life size oil portraits of herself all over the walls. One was bad enough. Corey went from the nice guy, the every man if you will, to the bully.

So the new tattoo artists that quit were Amy and Paulie and they both ended up working at this eccentric small shop named American Electric Tattoo. The shop isn’t pink like Kat’s and it could use some better lighting fixtures, but it isn’t pompous like some other tattoo shops. Aubrey is either getting fired or going to quit and Amy and Paulie were bugging Craig Jackman to hire her. The shop is so small there is no need for an assistant, especially an assistant like Aubrey. Craig put his foot down and decided not to hire her, he’s becoming the Tattoo Home for LA Ink Runaways.

What really confuses me is how much they are focusing on his shop. Don’t get me wrong, I love it. I love his sense of humor, humility and he seems to do tattoos just as good if not better than LA Ink. I thought that they’d just show his shop once as a way to say “Look, the tattoo artists that everyone at LA Ink was so mean to are OK.” The shop keeps coming back every episode, I’m surprised Kat allows it. I say ditch LA Ink, keep American Electric Tattoo, but don’t make them create all the drama. Just let them be happy and do awesome tattoos.

Lessons from Project Runway

Filed under: Business Lessons • Comments: 3

I work online so I’m better at using a free seo tool than I am at designing a dress. I still watch Project Runway though and learned a valuable business lesson. One of the designers was so afraid of failing that he wasted a lot of his time crying. He wanted to drop out on the first challenge before he’d even cut fabric. Nice words from Tim Gunn seemed to do the trick. His work ended up being the judges favorite. In fact, even a guy who spent like half an hour sewing this large see through poncho for red carpet wear made the cut. The lesson is: sew something, even if you don’t think you’re going to win or you don’t think you are good enough. Get something done.
