Lessons learned from The Pursuit of Happyness

Filed under: Business Lessons • Comments: None

Yes, occasionally I learn lessons from movies beyond the fact that Will Smith is a handsome, handsome man. Only occasionally. I just started watching The Pursuit of Happyness. I haven’t seen it in several months. However, I just looked at the movie case & smiled.

This movie filled me with hope & inspiration. It was like my brain suddenly had outdoor lighting installed. Lately, business has been going slow. Add to that the fact that the price of everything from gas to food has risen dramatically, I’ve been feeling a little discouraged in the business area. Then, I remember that I just need to keep going & keep dreaming.

Will gets kicked off the Real World

Filed under: Business Lessons • Comments: None

Will taught us a very important lesson on the Real World last week: do not get fired from your job or else you will be sent home. I think that people focus so much on the you will get sent home if you hit someone rule that they forget about the other rule. The sad thing is that they didn’t even have a job this season, they just had to learn improv. I was expecting him to get another warning, but rules are rules. Do you think it was fair? Do you think his roommates should have stuck up for him? Will you miss him? I have to admit that I won’t.

What matters & what doesn’t

House hunters used to be my favorite show. I loved watching the couples find new homes. I really loved the updates where we could see how they decorated their new home & even the cute baby clothes in the nursery closet. It was so interesting to see what the house hunters would compromise on & what they wouldn’t.

However, I’ve gotten really tired of it. It’s so materialistic. Yes, I know it’s about a house & a house is a material thing. However, if I see one more couple that doesn’t cook but they must have stainless steel appliances & granite countertops, I’ll scream. I’m tired of seeing houses rejected because they only have one sink in the master bathroom. It irks me when people can’t fathom the idea of having a guest room double as an office. In a world where so many have so little, we have so much & just seem to complain about it.
