Sometimes It’s Just Easier to Watch TV

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: None

Sure, there’s a few holidays that I really go all the way out with such as Christmas. However, there are some holidays that I’m just too tired to decorate for. So around Valentine’s Day, St. Patricks Day, or Easter I just tend to watch TV about craft projects even though I would never actually craft. I want to see what HGTV or Martha Stewart recommends to put in easter baskets. It’s much easier then doing the actual work myself.

Repo Wars: A Study in the Human Condition

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: None

This is a show where basically people think that their car is being repossessed and it is. However, they have the chance to basically win it back. All they have to do is answer some simple trivia questions. At first the people are angry. Usually they are never happy or grateful for the opportunity. In fact, one guy was standing their after he won yelling at the guys off camera just to make sure this was really happening.

What I’ve noticed on the show that is so fascinating is how self defeating some people are. Granted, this could just be because they haven’t been able to make the payments on their car. However, they usually look down at their shoes a lot. They expect to lose, even though the trivia questions are quite easy. Plain and simple, they don’t think they are good enough. They always think they are being tricked.

It’s amazing to see how their posture changes after they get a question right. I think it has to do with the fact that they are used to life being hard. Surely if they have a chance to win it must be impossible right? It’s kind of a silly show but it does show people at their most human.

The Power of Personality

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: None

I don’t watch The Shark Tank religiously. However, I sometimes tune into the show between commercials on other channels to see the crazy inventions. Some are more practical. The closest I get to an invention is remembering to charge lg phone batteries which really isn’t that close. The Sharks always seem to say the same thing “You don’t have the numbers you need” or “The numbers you have aren’t accurate”.

So, I pretty much knew the routine when a lady came in with a Turbobaster and had absolutely no data on it. I was pretty sure that she would be denied and eaten alive in the process. However, the sharks fell in love with her personality and thought it would make a great brand and basically fought to get her on their perspective teams. It just goes to show that sometimes you can beat the odds. However, if you do go on the show; bringing some numbers with you really can’t hurt.
