So That’s What It’s Called

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: 1

I was watching “How I Met Your Mother” and I heard a word that isn’t a word but certainly should be. Luckily, I’m really an expert at that. They said revertigo was when you basically revert back to whoever you were when you see someone from your past. I didn’t know that we needed a word for that, but now that we have one it makes perfect sense.

Finding the Experts

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: None

One of the things that fascinates me about all of the Pawn Kings, Pawn Stars, and Storage Wars shows is how they find out what is valuable. No matter what they pick up they know a guy who is an expert on that. I think it has a lot to do with who you know so that you know who to trust and can find out what something is really worth. I would just love to be like “Oh, I have a guy who knows about these kinds of antique etchings”. I know who to call to fix bathroom sinks but not to refurbish an entire airplane. These are the kinds of things that I’ll probably never get to say.

Good Life Lessons from Friends

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: None

I had thought that I had seen every episode of Friends enough that I had a pretty good grasp of every life lesson that I could have potentially learned. However, I was watching an episode where Phoebe and Mike adopted pet rats. Phoebe was talking about how things were spiraling out of control and it was taking over their lives. Mike said something like “We could not let the box of rats ruin our lives”. For some reason this really gave me a lot of perspective about the things that I worry about. I just forget all the time now I understand why some people buy reminders like a miraculous medal pendant to remind them of what they believe. Sometimes, it’s just a silly little problem.
