Momentum

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: None

I was watching The Nate Show yesterday and they were redoing a woman’s apartment who had just moved to NYC to pursue her dreams but couldn’t find a job. Deborah Norville went to her apartment to teach her how to sew window treatments. She kept saying that it was important for the woman to do this because then she would feel empowered.

Suze Orman had said something on her show when a couple had been out of work for a few years and was using their inheritance to pay off their house. She kept saying that now that they had accomplished something huge she wouldn’t be surprised if they got a job in no time at all. I guess it’s just a matter of really feeling accomplished about something and then carrying that feeling throughout your life. The confidence leaks over into other areas and can even help with a weight loss diet, finding a job, or getting out of debt.

Lessons Learned from The Fairy Job Mother

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: None

One thing that really baffles me on the Fairy Job Mother TV show is the jobs she has all of these former executives and business professionals applying for. Sure, if you were in construction or finance you probably have to get into a new field now. Granted, if you’ve always wanted to do something and haven’t had the freedom this makes sense. I think I would try to be something in interior design and pick out fabric, outdoor lighting fixtures, and wallpaper all the time. However, she has them prepping for a lot of $7-$8 hour jobs. I guess since it’s a new field it has to be entry level. What is even worse is that sometimes the people get denied for these jobs, even though they’ve got the Fairy Job Mother working her magic. It’s terrifying to see that is what the economy is like.

Why Are They Always Mad at Her?

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: None

One of the things that always confuses me is why people get so mad at Gail Vax-Oxlade on ‘Til Debt Do Us Part. She is there to get people out of debt. She’s helping heal relationships. The people on the show last night basically called her stupid and refused to do the challenges. They acted like it’s all of her fault and she’s just really making up the number. Granted it is difficult to conceive of them starting out at $90,000 in debt when one of them is already retired. They said that they couldn’t get up to the $700,000 in debt that she had quoted because no one would lend them that much. Plus, she will give you $5,000 to pay down the debt. She didn’t create the debt but I think people want simple and easy answers and are disillusioned when she doesn’t show up and wave a wand and make all of the debt disappear.
