Why the Simpsons Made Me Cry

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: None

Last night’s episode of the Simpsons was oddly touching. It showed Lisa getting a private scholarship to an academy. Lisa had really wanted this because she was scared of ending up like her mother. At the end it turns out that Marge is downstairs doing the laundry for the whole school; there was no scholarship. I felt silly getting teary eyed over a cartoon but it’s just a very good illustration of all the things moms do, even when their kids are being difficult.

The Law of Attraction and Reality Shows

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: 1

I’ve been watching Design Star a lot lately. There seems to be the same pattern that’s on all reality shows. The team challenges are always the most difficult and there’s one team who just really fights. It made me wonder if all of these negative vibes really sabotage the group. I kept thinking “wow ugly feelings create ugly rooms’. Maybe it’s just because the designers know that their rooms are bad so that they are creating this drama to defend themselves.

However, it seems like a team with negative energy never produces a clean final product. The same is true whether you’re trying to design lingerie, build a house, or get good grades. Drama distracts from the task at hand.

If I Were the Cake Boss

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: None

If I was part of the Cake Boss’ Italian family I would really try to prosper off of all of the revenue such a big family creates. Maybe I’d become a cigars aficionado for all those births. I really hope that someone in their family owns a banquet hall. Every week almost they show the family celebrating at a banquet hall. They seem to throw kids’ birthday parties in these spaces.

I also really love that the Cake Boss takes his job so seriously. Every week he’s like “This cake is for family, it’s got to be right”. Usually it will just be someone’s 5th birthday party or something but he’s still so dedicated to it.
