More Lessons Learned from Hoarders

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: None

I wasn’t expecting to learn anything new from the series Hoarders: Buried Alive on TLC because I’ve already watched Hoarders on A&E since it first came on the air. Both versions always inspire me to cleanup my house. Plus then I’m motivated to do all my banking, bill paying, and even finding auto insurance quotes online so I don’t get buried by papers.

The TLC show is set up a little bit differently. The people work through their stuff over a series of weeks and months instead of a series of days. I think I really prefer the A&E method more just because there seems to be quicker results and lots of help. However, the TLC version really seems to get a lot more into the entire family dynamic just instead of the cleanup process. It’s really sad how this disorder really seems to destroy the family of everyone single person who has it, or at least the ones on TV.

Sometimes Dr. Phil Makes Me Laugh

It must be difficult to be Dr. Phil. You are a little bit different than the typical talk show hosts because you are actually supposed to help the crazy people on your show. Sometimes he has truly horrible people on there and he always says “I applaud you for your candor”. Basically he’s saying “I’m not going to yell at you because everyone else in the world is going to yell at you but at least you just admitted to the whole entire world that you are a truly horrible person”. It’s one of those compliments that aren’t really a compliment.

What I Learned From Watching Anne of Green Gables

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: None

This has always been a staple whenever I have the flu. I always watch this movie about once a year ever since it came out when I was a kid. I didn’t think I was going to learn more by watching it, it was more habit and for comfort.

However, I hadn’t realized that Diana seems to break the girl code near the end. She kind of asks Anne if she can go after Gilbert. Then of course everything happens with Matthew so Anne moves back home and she and Gilbert get all flirty again and then Diana marries that other guy whose name escapes me. Really this would destroy any other female friendship. However, it just doesn’t seem to be a huge deal to either of them throughout the series just because they are “kindred spirits”. Ah, if only the real world worked that way.
