Lessons from Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: None

I think this is probably the most important reality TV show and especially the most realistic one featuring celebrities. It’s difficult to watch at times. I think the most poignant thing that has happened this season is with Dennis Rodman. We generally all know that the first step to recovery is admitting that you have a problem. All season he’s just said that he’s in there because of court, he doesn’t have a problem. Then one morning he just quickly said that he was an alcoholic and Shelly was just ecstatic about it. I guess it just goes to show that admitting it really is the first step.

Do You Miss Them?

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: None

When “Jon and Kate Plus Eight” first went off the air a tiny part of me wondered if I would miss them. Granted, I knew they’d both be tabloid fodder. Someday they’d release their tell all books. I just imagined a lot of people watched the show on their home gyms and now they didn’t know what to work out to.

Then I just kind of forgot that they existed. I know that Kate has changed her hairstyle and Jon has changed his girlfriend a few times. They kinda got shifted out of the news cycle by Tiger Woods and now Heidi Montag. I’m not sure that I want to get sucked back into that world. I’m really going to try and resist watching any projects that any of them are involved in. Although, it would be interesting to see what the kids have to say about the whole mess when they grow up.

Will Rosie Ever Be Happy?

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: None

I was watching Rosie on Oprah the other day and I wondered if this time she was really happy. I haven’t paid a lot of attention to her since the whole “View” issue. I just decided that I couldn’t make sense of her situation and I’d rather focus on my own business, learn how to get rid of blackheads, and empty the dishwasher rather then see her constant spiral.

It seems like whenever she has a new project she goes out and promotes it and says how happy she is. Then a few weeks or months later she has a meltdown and talks about how she was forced into saying she was happy by the people she now hates. Then she goes into more of a reclusive state until the enxt project. Then this project is always the one that made the difference, that changed things around for her, that was different from all the other ones. It’s a tragic cycle to watch. I do think that she’s a genuinely nice and funny person and I hope that this time she really means it.
