How to Close a Sale
The people on “Say Yes to the Dress” are perfect at this. Well, it doesn’t hurt that they have a sea of pretty dresses to choose from and that the people may end up on camera making their decisions. Sometimes I think the brides just buy the dress because they feel bad about taking up the consultant’s time. I wouldn’t be able to go there because I hate the constant feeling that you’re wasting a salesperson’s time just because you don’t buy something. They are so uppity about people who are “just playing dress up” when in reality they may be looking around for the perfect dress. I’d rather have a consultant with an ipod and a cigar acting like they were on a break so I could move at my own pace.
This isn’t always the case. One time a wealthy bride made the store stay open after closing while she looked at herself in a mirror during her second appointment of the day, one of which was unscheduled. I love how when the consultant gets fed up they just keep saying “Is This Your Dress?” over and over. It’s a good way to get the future bride to focus and commit to a product.
