Now That’s What I Call Parenting
I was watching the show “Little People, Big World”, well just a few seconds. I’ve never watched the show before but I had hoped that they weren’t suffering the way Jon and Kate are. From what I see on the commercials they seem like a pretty balanced family, but even a little bit of fame will affect people. I don’t know anyone’s name, and that really doesn’t matter. I don’t care if this was taken out of context. It just made me want to find a used rv for sale and run away from the TV and anyone who has ever been on the TV.
The dad was talking to his twin sons, they look like teenagers. He was telling the camera in an interview that they were trying to keep better track of them because the twins had been staying out late. So the dad asked where they were going and the sons honestly answered that they were going to a hot tub party with a lot of girls. Then the dad said “Are you taking swimsuits?” One of the sons acted like they weren’t going to be necessary. That’s where the conversation ended. The sons kept getting ready to go to the party. The mom went bowling.
Yes, it’s good to have hands on approach to parenting and know where your kids are. However, when your kids tell you they are going somewhere that sounds dangerous, you are supposed to ask follow up questions, or even better, act on it. It’s like saying “Hi son, where are you going?” “To run around with scissors dad.” “Ok, I did my job as a parent. Now I know that you are going to get hurt.”
