Lessons learned from Man vs Wild

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: None

I was watching Man vs. Wild and they were having a behind the scenes look. It kind of disappointed me that Bear has a survival expert follow him around and help him plan things. I wonder if they eat whatever he does or if they have granola bars in their backpacks.

It’s crazy some of the stuff that the camera men have to do. I’d never be able to make the sacrifices, I need a car, a shower, and laptops. I wouldn’t even want to do without a Branded flash drive. There was one shot in particular where Bear was going to jump out of a two person plane. The pilot of course took up the other seat. This meant that the cameraman had to strap himself to the wing of the plane. Really? Was a two person plane shot worth it? Jumping out of any plane is cool, just do it the easy way. I think the camera men have to be even crazier than Bear because I doubt they get the money or recognition but they still have to put themselves in danger.

TV Court Room Rules

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: None

If you are ever in a TV court room, especially Judge Judy’s, follow these rules. It may not help you win but at least you won’t look silly in front of millions of people.

  • Don’t bring in a friend who is just going to say the exact thing that you already said.
  • If you are a witness, stand up when the judge speaks to you.
  • Reply with yes, do not say mhhhmmm.
  • Don’t talk over the other person.
  • Bring in proof such as receipts and contracts.

Lessons Learned from Suze Orman

Filed under: Relationship Lessons • Comments: None

I was late getting on the Suze Orman bandwagon. She just always seemed quite abrasive to me. I kind of wanted her job because I figured that I could yell at people and then hopefully it would fix their lives. That’s my calling right there.

I watched the “Can I Afford It?’ segment and was pretty much hooked. Now I’ve been tuning in every week to see what she has to say about everything from the recession to term life insurance. I’m amazed at how much people want to spend on things that they obviously can’t afford. I really disagree with Suze when she yells at moms for trying to set up college funds or help out their kids. I guess that’s the emotional part of me, if you just look at the numbers, no it doesn’t make sense. I’ve learned from watching Suze Orman that it’s better to sacrifice a few things now for big returns later on.
