LA Inks?
I really don’t understand what is going on with the show LA Ink. All the new people keep getting fired. Kat just keeps putting more and more pictures of herself up in her shop, like life size oil portraits of herself all over the walls. One was bad enough. Corey went from the nice guy, the every man if you will, to the bully.
So the new tattoo artists that quit were Amy and Paulie and they both ended up working at this eccentric small shop named American Electric Tattoo. The shop isn’t pink like Kat’s and it could use some better lighting fixtures, but it isn’t pompous like some other tattoo shops. Aubrey is either getting fired or going to quit and Amy and Paulie were bugging Craig Jackman to hire her. The shop is so small there is no need for an assistant, especially an assistant like Aubrey. Craig put his foot down and decided not to hire her, he’s becoming the Tattoo Home for LA Ink Runaways.
What really confuses me is how much they are focusing on his shop. Don’t get me wrong, I love it. I love his sense of humor, humility and he seems to do tattoos just as good if not better than LA Ink. I thought that they’d just show his shop once as a way to say “Look, the tattoo artists that everyone at LA Ink was so mean to are OK.” The shop keeps coming back every episode, I’m surprised Kat allows it. I say ditch LA Ink, keep American Electric Tattoo, but don’t make them create all the drama. Just let them be happy and do awesome tattoos.

I’m also a little confused as to why TLC is integrating another shop on LA Ink. I couldn’t agree more, though. Kill off L.A. Ink and all their negativity and go with American Electric. I used to be a huge fan of Kat’s until I (along with every other sane person who watches the show) was blindsided by her and her “tattoo family’s” (Corey, Dan, G and that pizza-faced, butch chick) pompous, mean-spirited, totally degrading attitudes. It seems to have just started full-force, this season. I find myself watching LA Ink now, only to see how Amy and Paulie are doing. Thanks TLC for giving me at least one reason to continue to tune in every week.
PS- Aubrey should have told everyone at LA Ink to shove it a LONG time ago.

Having just moved away from LA about a year ago, I was pleasantly surprised to see Craig and Co. on the show. I got a majority of my tattoos at American Electric from a guy named Adrian who I think is up in Pasadena @Incognito. This last july I got a sickkk tattoo from Amy on my arm. Craig is one of the funniest guys I ever met and friendly. He’s even funnier in person, probably the funniest when he’s actually tattooing. I remember that he measured other tattoo artists by their ability to do a good job while listening to Craig’s jokes. There were times when I was laughing so hard, I have no idea how my tattoos came out so great. Of course, Adrian is a badass artist, and I am totally happy with Amy’s work.

Just got back from LA a few weeks ago. I am female and 53. I decided after watching LA Ink that it would be great to have my first and probably only tatoo done there while on vacation. After four weeks of no replies to my sketch submissions to several of the artists (ok I got a reply back from Cory after the second time stating that he was booked until December) I decided to call American Electric. Craig answered the phone! We had a nice talk, relieving all my fears. One week later, I dropped off my sketch to Amy Sunday afternoon and had an appointment for that Tuesday.
She is an an extremely talented artist. She took my very rough draft of the dragon that I wanted and made it smooth and very feminine looking as I wanted. It took 3 hours (a huge 7 x 7 on my left upper back – might as well go big if it may be your only one). She is funny, very caring about how you are doing throughout the process. I cried when I finally viewed my art. It was beautiful !! The artists at LA could not have done any better. And from other reviews that I have read, I would not have been able to afford their work anyway. Amy’s charge was more than reasonable; much lower than I had ever expected.
I’m going on 1-1/2 weeks now and it is healing properly and I am even more pleased with it and am even thinking of a second one when we go back out to LA next year. I want to meet Craig in person this time, but Amy will be doing the tat !
No fluff or hype at American Electric – just good old tattooing!

1st, the name of the show is LA Ink, not Kat’s shop. Her Shop is High Voltage Tattoo. No clue why they never let the sign’s with her shop’s actual name be shown on TV, but whatever.
2nd, Aubrey is a moron & was hired by TLC to bring the drama to the show. She was on Rock Of Love of God’s sake. She is just someone trying to make a living being on dumb reality shows. She knows nothing about tattoos or tattooing, so why is she there & with how bad she does, if it wasn’t a set up by TLC, Kat would have gotten rid of her along time ago.
3rd, people it’s TV. They edit things to make a show the way they want, so don’t get nuts with these people are this or that.
I’d say either Kat or TLC are somehow financially support American Electric or it makes no sense for it to be on the show. There are enough tattooists at High Voltage, they don’t need to have a 2nd shop to make the show other then to keep drama going on the show.

DRAMATIC “CHARACTERS” – AUBREY AND LIZ If you read this article http://www.inkedmag.com/features/i-am-not-kat-von-d/page/1/ on page 2, you will see that Aubrey and Liz were dramatic plants to dramatize the show more and Kat isn’t happy about it at all. In one sense I was relieved because I thought maybe Kat’s business sense was severely lacking by hiring these idiotic girls and allowing them to work for as long as they have…. I was seriously losing respect for Kat for not firing the obvious idiotic and devious bitchy girls, so that question was solved, but TLC big wigs are going to ruin the show if they keep trying to turn it into set up drama and introduce “characters” everyone hates just for ratings. It’s not THE FRICKING HILLS! I want to see the damn tattoos and the incredible artwork and hear their stories. What the show was about in the first place before the unnecessary distractions of people that have no right being in that tattoo shop. There are a million people who are interesting that could do that job without the drama and it would still keep viewers. Dammit!
If you want to complain to the right people go to this link – http://extweb.discovery.com/viewerrelations You have to fill out a couple of things, but then you have 1500 words to say your piece.
