Things that confuse me about the Hills

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: None
  • Heidi seems to think that a girls night is a place. “We were at girls night.” “I was putting on jewelry to go to girls night.”
  • I’m also dumbfounded that Stephanie has apparently made it through at least two days at People’s Revolution. Granted, she has more work ethic than her brother who just sits on the couch & checks facebook all day. I’m just amazed that Kelly hasn’t fired her yet. There’s always next week.
  • People are always complaining that this reality show is in fact staged. If that’s the case, why do all the important scenes take place in clubs? You think a producer would realize “We have to close caption everything against annoying music, maybe we should talk about relationships somewhere else.”

I have to give kudos to Heidi & Spencer’s therapist. By their third sentence she said that they were acting like they are in high school. Then she asked Heidi why she is still with him. It’s a very good question Heidi, a very good question.

MASH reunion special

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: None

I was watching the Mash 30 year reunion special on TV Land, even though it’s a few years old. I was expecting it to be the typical reunion show. They’d finally dish about all of the fighting & behind the scenes romances. Granted, I didn’t get to see the whole thing. They just seemed to show clips from each character. They had most of the cast sitting in a room together, just laughing. It was a surprise how well they all got along. They all complimented the other people & it was like “Nooo you are the funny one.”

There was one shock & that was Radar. Dear, sweet, teddy bear toting Radar. He seemed to be quite demanding. He was in the studio but also had clips of him sitting in front of a Emmy holding a lap dog. Gary Burghoff even seemed to take credit for the inspiration behind the beautiful episode where a wounded soldier thinks he is Jesus. I guess he was the only one from the original film. I would’ve thought that one of the bigger stars like Alan Alda would’ve been the pompous one.

Last Cake Standing

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: 1

The Food Network Challenge has always been a favorite of mine. I love watching people build tall food sculptures in just a few hours. Then of course they have to carry them to the table, even though they are impossibly heavy, just for the pure dramatic element. They build extraordinary cakes that don’t even look like cakes. They might even have a nature scene that is reminiscent of the Outer Banks. I’ve gotten to know all of the personalities & who cracks under pressure, that’s the best part. Duff from Ace of Cakes got his start off the show, even though his pieces were usually disasters.

So of course when they announced Food Network Challenge: Last Cake Standing I tuned in. It is the best show ever. The contestants have to go through different challenges, with a chef being eliminated every week. All of the cake artists are very talented. I think that Mary will win & Bronwyn Weber will be in her shadow yet again.
