More lessons learned from The City

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: None

You know that quiet voice in your head that says “Danger, Danger?” I was just watching a preview for next week’s episode of The City & that signal in my head went off. Apparently, Jay is getting kicked out of his apartment & he says something like “Of course I’d be more comfortable living with you.” Did he just invite himself to move in with Whitney?

I never thought that I would want to do scrapbooking of Justin Bobbi from The Hills. Then I could show it to Whit & say, remember? You would think that eventually Whitney would’ve caught on to what a loser boyfriend looks like. Danger, Whitney, Danger.

America’s Best Dance Crew

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: 1

If you combine youtube with my natural cynicism you get a sarcastic girl who thinks that she’s already seen everything. Just the other day I saw a Chihuahua who could swear. Nothing surprises me anymore.

Well, until last week when I turned on America’s Best Dance Crew. I never expected clogging to be cool. I was even amazed by the teams that the judges were not impressed with. In an age with so much technology to see people perform & do such amazing things with their bodies left me breathless. I guess I hadn’t seen everything. Awesome. That’s all I have to say is just awesome.

TV Writers

Filed under: Business Lessons • Comments: 2

It seems like all of the really cool girls on TV are writers. Carrie Bradshaw comes to mind. They wake up in the middle of the day, have leisurly breakfasts & then pen a few words about what happened at the club the night before. Then they have enough money to buy lots of amazing shoes. Maybe they will have one episode devoted to writer’s block but in general their profession isn’t mentioned all that much. It makes writing look easy.

I am trying to make it as a writer & I can tell you that this is not the case. Granted, I’m just into writing web content at the moment. TV doesn’t show the hours & hours of work. It doesn’t show researching topics that you really don’t care about. It doesn’t show earning mere pennies for something you put your heart into. It doesn’t show rejection e-mails. It definitely doesn’t show how competitive & uncertain everything is. It’s probably good that TV doesn’t show all of that or there would be a lot less writers.
