What it’s like to work for Martha Stewart

Filed under: Business Lessons • Comments: None

I usually have a stereotype of the people that work for Martha Stewart. I assume that they wear sweaters tied around their necks. I assume that they are so detailed oriented that they annoy people who don’t work for Martha Stewart. I think that they mention the fact that they work for Martha Stewart to every single person they meet. I doubt that they need appetite suppressants because they are probably too anxiety ridden to eat much.

This is just the fun little stereotype type in my head that I use to console myself with the fact that I can’t do craft projects. So imagine my surprise when Eddie, one of the contestants on Top Design, had worked for Martha Stewart previously. He fails to add that he was a food editor, not a design editor. Eddie is everything that I always thought that he would be & so much more. He gets mad if he doesn’t get first place every time & his face just falls whenever he receives the smallest amount of criticism. I love it when I’m right. Whenever I have a really bad day at work at I just say to myself, “At least I don’t work for Martha.”

What I learned from Brooke Knows Best

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: 2

I really didn’t think that I’d watch Brooke Knows Best. I know that the title is a play on the previous show Hogan Knows Best, but it’s dumbfounding. I really didn’t think that Brooke knew best about anything.

However, It’s apparent from watching her show that she knows about family. The show is almost painful to see. It features Brooke bopping back & forth between Linda & the Hulk. Brooke keeps smiling through the divorce & doesn’t mention the trouble her brother has gotten into. She relays messages back & forth between her parents. She tries to get her Mom to feel confident. If she does something with one parent then she has to go see the other parent right away so they won’t get jealous. So what I learned is that divorce sucks & that kids get stuck in the middle.

The Anti Bridezilla

Filed under: Relationship Lessons • Comments: None

Every episode of bridezillas starts with the introduction of a seemingly normal girl. Then the voice over says “Will she turn into a fire breathing, dress stealing, mother in law hitting bridezilla?” Then they show all of her worst clips that they embellish with dramatic devils horns & the like. Of course, that is always whats happens. The show is called bridezillas after all. I accept that.

Just once though, I’d like them to turn from a bridezilla into a normal person that realizes that having debt collection agencies after you isn’t worth those diamond studded shoes . Maybe she could realize that her bridesmaids are her friends & it would be rude to tell them to lose weight. Maybe she could realize that her day is actually shared with her fiance. I know that this can’t happen every week but can it happen just once? Maybe for sweeps week? I’ll even let you use the term anti bridezilla.
