Juno

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: None

I’m not normally the kind of person who says such & such a tragic event was caused by rap music. I think people are a lot smarter than we give them credit for. Then, I think about the fact that I watched Into the Wild & wanted to get a travel guide because the scenery was so beautiful.

I liked the movie Juno, but I was mildly worried that pregnant teenage girls would think that their boyfriends would leave track meets to see them in the hospital & then they would date after they gave the child up for adoption. I worried they would have visions of playing guitar together. Granted, Juno is not a glamorous movie, I don’t think that it “glamorized” pregnancy, but it wasn’t a worse case scenario movie. Then I had to remind myself that people are a lot smarter than we give them credit for.

One of the best people on reality TV

Filed under: Lessons • Comments: None

I really wasn’t expecting heroics on Groomer Has It. I was expecting dog grooming & the obligatory fighting that comes with reality TV. So I was stunned last week during a challenge where the groomers had to groom dogs from the pound. The groomers then had to try & get the dogs adopted, the last person who got their dog adopted would be sent home.

Most everyone chose dogs that they thought would win. One of the groomers was horrified because he only grooms show dogs or some nonsense like that. Artist chose a dog that needed help. Artist did the best he could with the dog, but the dog was barking like crazy & wearing one of those weird cone things so it wouldn’t bite itself. It was obvious that Artist’s dog wouldn’t get adopted & Artist would go home.

So, a family came into look at Artists’ dog & it was apparent they didn’t want that dog. So Artist said, well there’s another dog here & gave his customer to another groomer who ended up adopting the other groomer’s dog. I was stunned. In reality TV we are so used to back biting & alliances & whatever it takes to win. Artist did the best thing for the dogs even though it meant that he would probably lose. In the end, they didn’t send anyone home. I’m glad. I don’t know if Artist is the best groomer but he is definitely the best person.

Man vs. Wild

Filed under: Relationship Lessons • Comments: None

I am in love with the show Man vs. Wild on the Discovery channel. Basically, a hot British guy named Bear purposely gets stranded in crazy places & then shows us how to get out alive. He is always jumping across ravines & eating grubs.

I don’t know if the show is real, I doubt it. There are way too many camera men around for Bear to actually be doing this all alone. However, it would take a laptop & some serious gps tracking devices & memory to get me out of the wild alive, so I admire him for that.
