Dreamy

Everyone has a celebrity crush & for many women it’s Johnny Depp. It’s easy to see why, he has been a pirate after all. However, my favorite Johnny Depp roles were not in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

One of my favorite Johnny Depp movies of all time was Benny & Joon. I loved Benny & Joon so much because it brought “I’m Gonna Be” also known as 500 Miles by the Proclaimers into fame. I remember this song from every single middle school dance I attended. This movie also made me laugh whenever I saw a raisin because of this scene:

Sam: You don’t like raisins?
Joon: Not really.
Sam: Why?
Joon: They used to be fat and juicy and now they’re twisted. They had their lives stolen. Well, they taste sweet, but really they’re just humiliated grapes. I can’t say I am a big supporter of the raisin council.
Sam: Did you see those, those raisins on TV? The ones that sing and dance and stuff?
Joon: They scare me.
Sam: Yeah me too
Joon: It’s sick. The commercial people they make them sing and dance so people will eat them.
Sam: It’s a shame about raisins.
Joon: Cannibals.

It’s hard to beat the raisin conversation. However, I may love the movie “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” even more. This isn’t one of Johnny Depp’s more famous movies, but he has great hair in it. It’s a fantastic movie about family obligation & life in general. I love how the mom calls Arnie her “Sunshine Boy”. My favorite scene is when Gilbert & Arnie leave town to start a new life because I had no idea how the movie was going to turn out until the very end. Although I’d probably still have to say that I love the Benny & Joon raisin conversation more…cannibals.

If you visit the official Sweeney Todd movie site or visit Sweeney Todd on MySpace you can find out about Johnny Depp’s new movie. Sweeney Todd is Tim Burton’s new film that comes out in 2 weeks & 7 Days. which is an adaption of a Stephen Sondheim musical. What’s your favorite Johnny Depp film?
